Dr. Darla Burnett received the top number of votes in the LSBEP election that closed on February 6. She won the top spot by capturing 77 votes or 43 percent of the total 180 psychologists voting in the election.
Dr. Gary Jones came in second with 67 votes, for 37 percent of
the total. Dr. Arnold James received 36 votes, or 20 percent.
Dr. Burnett is a clinical and medical psychologist engaged in private practice in the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. She earned her PhD from U. of Southern Mississippi and has been licensed in Louisiana since 2001. She has previously served as president of LPA and is serving as Federal Advocacy Coordinator. She holds a certificate for medical psychology from 2010.
Dr. Gary Jones is professor and Chair at LSUS. He served on the Mississippi board of examiners, as Team Chair for APA Accreditation Site Visit Teams for Clinical Psychology, and as president of the Southeastern Association of Directors of Clinical
Psychology. He is a member of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards and he earned his PhD from Bowling Green State University.
Dr. Arnold James is Assistant Professor at Tulane University School of Medicine, a consulting psychologist at Southeastern Louisiana Hospital, and psychology representative to the Tulane U. Medical Center Psychiatry Medical Education Committee. Dr. James earned his PhD from U. of South Carolina and was licensed in 1994. He is involved with United Way programs in the N.O. region and also community programs in Houston.
Dr. Burnett’s and Dr. Jones’ names have been submitted to the governor, according to the LPA Executive Director.
