Northwestern Faculty and Students Present at SEPA

The Psychology Department sent a full contingency to the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) annual meeting in New Orleans in February. Dr. Susan Thorson- Barnett, Mr. Joseph D. (Jody) Biscoe, III, and graduate assistant, Laura Burns conducted a three-hour continuing education workshop titled “MICROSKILLS: I’m hearing what you are saying, but what are you saying?”

History of the department was presented by Mr. Terry Isbell, Dr. Susan Thorson-Barnett, and Dr. Maureen McHale, Professor Emeritus, as part of a session examining the development of psychology programs throughout the southeast.

Dr. Cynthia Lindsey and Michelle Robichaux Barnhill, M.S., presented a paper titled “Integrative Model of Motivation and Commitment: Personality and Social Foci.” Also, Dr. Cynthia Lindsey and Laura Miller, M.S. presented a poster titled “Effect of Approval Seeking on Anxiety and Separation Individuation in College.”

Dr. Margaret Cochran and graduate student Kayla LeLeux- LaBarge presented a paper entitled “Influence of parenting styles and maladaptive cognitive schemas on anxiety.”

Graduate student, Brandon LaBarge along with his thesis committee members, Dr. Margaret Cochran and Dr. Susan Thorson-Barnett, presented a poster titled “Humor styles and life-style defense mechanisms in psychological well-being.”
