Dr. Carl Weems, professor of psychology at the University of New Orleans Psychology Department, is part of a team working to understand personality factors related to cybersecurity risks.
Weems is part of the multidisciplinary team that includes two UNO professors of computer science. The research is funded by a $223,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
The team is looking at attention, personality, cognitive preferences, and other factors that can aid in the detection and prevention of cybersecurity risks.
By studying the links between psychological factors and cyber behaviors in real world situations Dr. Weems and th other members of the research group hope to uncover ways to adapt software systems to help reduce risks and effects of cyber attacks.
