The Louisiana Psychological Association (LPA) elected new officers at their meeting held in Baton Rouge last month.

Dr. John Fanning from New Orleans was given the thumbs up by members to take on the role of President-Elect, automatically moving into the President role in 2013. Also running was Dr. Joseph Tramontana, who currently serves as council member.

Dr. Carolyn Weyand, also from New Orleans, won her bid for the position of Treasurer. Dr. Weyand was running against Dr. Thomas Fain, who currently serves as Treasurer and who has served as President for LPA twice in the past.

Members reelected Dr. Kim Van Geffen and Dr. Robert Storer to the Executive Council. Dr. Paula Zeanah, from New Orleans, won the third open position as a new council member.

Also at the business meeting, Dr. Tom Hannie corrected wording of his 2011 resolution, which had been misquoted in last year’s records. The resolution calls for the association to open discussions with the state medical society, the state medical board, and the state psychology board, to find a way to allow medicine to regulate the medical practice of medical psychologists, and for the psychology board to regulate the psychology practice of medical psychologists.

The original motion was amended to include the LAMP in these discussions.

Dr. John Fanning (R) speaks with Dr. Janet Matthews and Dr. Lee Matthews at the LPA Fall Conference last year. Dr. Fanning was recently elected by members to serve in the role of President-Elect for the association, automatically moving into President in 2013.
