Bill About Title “Doctor” in Healthcare Amended in H&W

At the April 25 committee meeting of Senate Health & Welfare, Senator Heitmeier presented amendments to SB 320, a bill that would restrict the title “doctor” in healthcare settings. He explained the first amendment: “No healthcare provider while providing direct patient care shall present himself either orally or in writing to a patient, using the term doctor …” A second amended noted: “…shall not apply to a physician as defined by Medicare, pursuant to the Medicare, 42 …” He said, “What that does is it exempts the people that are defined as physicians under Medicare.” SB 320 was moved favorably as amended.
