The Psychology Times 2013 COMMUNITY AWARD COURAGE Michael Chafetz

This award could have been named the Galileo award. The Holy Office punished Galileo for finding out that it was the earth that orbited the sun, which apparently was quite threatening to some people.

The Times’ Courage Award is given to those in science or practice that go up against the behemoths of status quo, where they are likely to be punished or ostracized. It is for the Davids, for the people with the slingshot who whack Goliath in the nose anyway.

A very close contender was Dr. George Noell, whose research connecting schools, teachers, and student performance, is continuing to impact the entire state as Act 54 rolls along.

But we have to give the 2013 Courage Award to the neuropsychologist researcher Dr. Michael Chafetz, who, with very little help or support, has taken on the Social Security Administration and their inappropriate prohibition against symptom validity assessment in disability claims.
