The Psychology Times 2013 COMMUNITY AWARD STATESMANSHIP Steven Welsh, Rita Culross, Connie Patterson, Carmen Broussard, Susan Ratterree, E. Francoise Parr, Kelly Parker also Lee Matthews

The Statesmanship Award goes to the person or group that embraces win-win problem solving in government or legislative areas. It involves the respect for diversity and genuine efforts to engage those with different views. But also, the award involves maintaining excellence in decisions and outcomes, not just compromises.

True statesmen and stateswomen preserve the best principles and values of the larger society, while at the same time creating a light bulb––something that produces a lot of value, but at an insignificant or small cost, either material or social.

This year’s Statesmanship Award goes to members of the School Specialist Task Force. After 30 years, the group developed a bridge that could help serve the school children of Louisiana who have very little access to school psychology services.

Winners are Dr. Rita Culross, Dr. Connie Patterson, Dr. Carmen Broussard, Susan Ratterree, E. Francoise Parr, and Kelly Parker. Also, and perhaps especially Dr. Steven Welsh, who floated the idea. Chair Dr. Lee Matthews, who embraced it, is also named by the Times’ staff.
