Still Not on 2015 Screening List

A year end Medscape review of health research that should change primary care included findings for vitamin D deficiency. Low D3 was associated with increased mortality risks of 35% for CV disease, 14% for cancer, 30% for nonvascular/noncancer death, and 35% for all cause mortality. Supplemental vitamin D reduced mortality by 11%, the report noted.

However, the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force still does not support D3 screening. It issued a first-ever guidance on the routine screening for D, saying that evidence is insufficient to support routine screening.
